Why, you might think, would you want to cut emotional or energetic ties to somebody or some place? Sometimes we need to move on from past events, traumas and relationships that still hurt or even haunt us. We no longer wish to be defined by such things that have happened. But, for many of us, we still defined by these past difficulties in relationships. Old personal or work traumas affect us, even though they happened quite some time ago. Old histories are still very present. This can be true even if we physically moved on some time ago. Additionally, we can still love a person dearly, but need to protect our own wellbeing and growth.

Shamans believe that we can lose ‘soul fragments’ when experiencing such difficult or emotionally fraught times, almost as if we ‘have lost a part of ourselves’. By cutting ties, we are mentally taking responsibility and no longer wishing to define ourselves by something in our past or present. Cutting ties is always done with love and with an absence of malice.

This exercise is very empowering.

 1. Centre yourself and bring your focus to your heart area. 

2. Ask Archangel Michael to be with you
(Say his name three times and ask for him to come and help you) 

3. See yourself and this past event or person(s) 

4. Visualise the energetic ties that connect you to this event or person .
Some people are visually orientated, others more auditory or kinaesthetically biased. Go with what works for you - visualisation, hearing, feeling or simply just knowing.

5. Ask that Michael cut the ties with ‘Love and Light’ for the highest good .

6. Ask that any soul fragments that belong to you return to you and that any fragments belonging to another person be sent back to them with love and respect.  Then imagine them being sealed by a loving light.

7. You can send healing Violet Light to yourself/the situation/another stimulate healing and transmutation. Breathe deeply and feel stronger.

You may need to repeat this exercise until you feel lighter and unburdened.

Remember the cutting ties exercise must not be undertaken from a  position of anger or hatred but from the healing perspective of love, (even though this might feel like a big ask).

It is also useful to thank the person or event for the lessons which you have learned and forgive. On a soul level, our soul family sometimes volunteer to teach us the difficult lessons which we have chosen to learn.
