  • Hypnotherapy commences with a preliminary consultation, either face to face or via phone, to discuss your situation and goals. This allows for a bespoke design of a therapeutic plan of action to best help you. Hypnotherapy sessions are then carried out in person in Haslemere, Surrey or via online video link.

  • Hypnosis works by entering into a deep state of relaxation, whereby positive, helpful suggestions can be made to unconscious mind. During our waking life, it is thought that only around 5% of our brain is involved in conscious thought. The remaining 95% of unconscious activity is responsible for a huge amount of our feelings, behaviours and actions.

    Hypnosis enables us to enter a light or a deep trance state, where the brain can be highly focused on receiving positive suggestions, often by the use of metaphor or imagery. Old unhelpful behaviours and beliefs can be addressed and reprogrammed, so that after therapy we can adopt new, more helpful ways of thinking and behaving. For example old patterns such as ‘I don’t really deserve happiness’, or ‘I am never really successful’ can be reprogrammed.
    Similarly, destructive self sabotage behaviours or even over protective behaviours (e.g. overeating) can be addressed and remedied.

    Hypnosis is an extremely effective way to help you reach your goals, whether these are performance related, stress related or involve better understanding what is going on with you and within your body.

  • This all depends on what your intitial goal, concern or issue is. All hypnotherapy sessions are bespoke to you and after an initial free consultation with you, we will be able to design a treatment plan. This might result in a one off hypnotherapy session or could typically be anything between three - six sessions, depending on your unique needs.

  • Hypnosis works by entering a light or a deep trance, depending on what is required therapeutically.
    A trance is a state of deep relaxation and focus. Think of being deeply engrossed in a book or a film, or even a car journey, that you don’t really notice what others are saying around you, but you are concentrating deeply on the book/film/road. They are all trance states.
    It’s a bit like listening to the radio, you can hear what is going on, you can pay attention to the positive suggestions which are enfolding, but you will not listen to someone else asking for your attention at that time.

    Often you will be able to speak and communicate during your hypnotic trance, even mention that you need to go to the loo in a longer session.
    The trance state is useful as it means that you are deeply relaxed, it also means that the hypnotherapist is able to communicate directly with your unconscious mind to make positive, helpful suggestions or to explore the real reason behind certain behaviours or beliefs which you wish to change.

    For the purposes of hypnotherapy, the therapist can use a light trance state to make positive suggestions. For example, using certain language patterns during conversation, can be really helpful in achieving your desired outcome.

  • Hypnosis and hypnotic trance can feel like a dream state . You are aware of what is going on around you, but your are not paying any attention to external noises and events. You are completely focussed on entering this lovely state of deep relaxation, where the voice of the hypnotist will guide you. Whilst you are in this state, root causes of issues can be identified and the unconscious mind is very receptive to positive suggestions which will help you achieve your desired outcomes.

    Not all hypnosis is undertaken in a deep trance, some hypnotherapy will be in a light trance state and some effective hypnotic suggestions are even undertaken in a non-trance state, during conversation.

    We always leave clients feeling deeply relaxed with a sense of wellbeing and positive energy.

  • You will be in control, just in a deeply relaxed and focussed state. Clinical, therapeutic hypnosis is completely different to stage hypnosis, so please do not worry that you will be made to do stuff you don’t want to, or that somehow, you will reveal more personal information which you would never want to share. You will be in control still!

  • Hypnotherapy is an excellent way to de-stress and relax, At Amethyst Tiger, we teach you self-hypnosis too, so you can use this technique at any time to feel a greater sense of well-being.

  • Yes, hypnosis is possible and sometimes exremely useful, although we would always like a parent or guardian to be in the room too for younger children. Hypnosis in these cases tends to be shorter with lots of positive imagery and even play.

    Hypnosis for teens is also really useful, especially as this group often faces many things that might leave them to feel concerned or anxious. Teens are anxious about the pressures of social and friendship groups, social media, exam preparation, relationships with family and friends, self image. Many teenagers also feel anxious about the pressures of schooling, examinations and college.

    Of course, many children and teenagers have to deal with the same issues that adults do too.

  • At Amethyst Tiger, we find that using different therapy modalities can be really effective. Sometimes a session will incorporate Reiki or a shamanic practice used within the hypnosis itself. At other times, clients might have one hypnotherapy session followed by an energy healing the next time, or vice versa. We always go with what our clients need in that moment and what they feel comfortable with, in order to achieve their goals.

    However, healing often happens in layers, like the layers of an onion, so as one thing clears, a deeper or longer held issue might emerge - ready to be healed. This mixed approach is a great way to address this, using the right route for the right issue at a given point in time.

  • Yes, we always teach hypnotherapy clients how to self hypnotise. Clients are normally given recordings of hypnosis to do at home, to support and reinforce the desired outcome.

  • Actually, both face to face and online hypnotherapy are both equally effective. Of course it is nice to be in the same room for hypnosis for both client and hypnotherapist. However, having hypnotherapy in the comfort of your own home, or office, can be really useful, saves time and allows for us to treat people effectively no matter where they live and work!

  • Sometimes, one session is all that is needed and at others we will devise a therapeutic plan which typically requires a series of three to six sessions.

    Of course, you can always pay as you go for each session, but a bundle will give you some savings and more importantly, ensures that you are fully able to commit to the work involved in achieving your desired outcome. (Often clients might put the needs of others before their own wellbeing , so purchasing a bundle of sessions helps to ensure that they allow themselves the time they need).
